Accessed through Sticks and Vines cigar and wine shop on Main Street in downtown Albertville, Busted Oak Bourbon Society is a speakeasy inspired bar, complete with a password protected entrance. Just kidding; everyone is welcome at Busted Oak. But how much more fun would it be to give a password before entering? You could try it out when you visit just to get the full prohibition experience. And while a bourbon society might indicate a membership is needed, that is not so with Busted Oak. Memberships are offered for cigar lockers—as well as for certain perks and special opportunities—but not required.

Among the jaw-dropping detail and comfortable seating areas, Busted Oak offers generous pours of quality spirits, which include bourbon, rum, tequila, scotch, wine, craft domestic beer and signature cocktails. The Painkiller is a solid choice if unsure of what to order, but would like to venture out a bit. Pro tip: Ask the bartender to smoke it. Words alone cannot accurately describe how much depth the smoky flavor adds to an already outstanding cocktail. The Old Fashioned is a classic option and can also be smoked.

Originally built in 1905, the building that now houses Busted Oak Bourbon Society was one of two structures left standing after the 1908 tornado came through Albertville. The storm left death and destruction in its wake, killing 32 people and forever adding a cloud of mystery to the area, where strange things reportedly happen on a regular basis.

The building has been many things throughout the years, but in June 2021, four longtime friends came together to create a space where they could have a nice cocktail and good conversation. Married couples Doug and Wendy Sherrod and Toby and Kelly Walker had the vision for a speakeasy for several years before they finally opened Busted Oak. The bar was an instant success; a perfect addition to a thriving downtown Albertville for patrons from 21 to 81, which is exactly how the owners want it, referring to their crowd as “ageless.”

During the months they have been in business, Busted Oak has hosted ‘Roaring 20s’ theme nights and live performers. In addition, they have recently added gourmet hot dogs to their menu.

Between the incredible ambiance, beautiful decorations, and quality spirits, Busted Oak Bourbon Society is one bar that is an absolute must for a memorable night out.
