Alabama is home to an incredible range of state parks that have something to offer adventurers year-round. Our Alabama State Parks Passport series highlights all of the stunning outdoor spaces throughout the state that make for the perfect seasonal getaway. The ninth in our series is Buck’s Pocket State Park.

According to Alabama State Parks, the amenities at Buck’s Pocket State Park “create a family-friendly destination for campers, off-road enthusiasts, and vacationers.”

ACCOMMODATIONS

The campground at Buck’s Pocket is home to 23 campsites. All 23 of the campsites have access to both electricity and water. Many of the sites are sewer hook-up sites and four are pull-through sites. At each site, campers will find a concrete camper pad, fire pit, grill, and picnic table.

Buck’s Pocket also offers nearly a dozen primitive campsites that are found within the campground’s interior. Campers will find a bathhouse, ADA bathhouse, and dump station. An ADA-accessible campsite without a sewer hook-up is available as well as high-speed WiFi for those within the primary campground and a pavilion that can be rented within the campground’s common area.

ORV TRAIL

One of Buck’s Pocket State Park’s most exciting features is the ORV trail “was the first of its kind for the Alabama State Parks.” The ORV trail is a great way to enjoy part of the state’s most scenic landscapes. The trail is meant to be a slow-paced experience taking adventurers through the hardwood forest that runs parallel to South Sauty Creek.

“The trail passes through the back country campsite area and then runs towards Morgan’s Cove boat ramp where it continues another 2.3 miles. Along the 6.2 mile ORV trail, there are many opportunities for scenic views to see some of Northeast Alabama’s unique flora and fauna. In addition, there are a few locations to picnic and fish.”

NATURE

Named for the isolated pocket of land that it claims atop Sand Mountain, one of Buck’s Pocket’s best qualities is its calm and quiet atmosphere. The park offers many beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Point Rock is one of the park’s most popular places to visit as its views are arguably the most stunning in the area.
