‘Beetlejuice’
“Beetlejuice,” a Broadway musical comedy presented by the American Theatre Guild, is underway through Sunday, May 11, at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Based on Tim Burton’s film, the musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, an unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. Montgomery’s Mother’s Day at the Zoo
Celebrate Mother’s Day at the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum. Moms will receive free admission to the zoo, Mann Wildlife Learning Museum, Waters of the World, the reptile facility and the zookeeper talks at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact zooinfo@montgomeryal.gov or call 334-625-4905. Jasper’s Art in the Park
Art in the Park is a family-friendly juried art show with more than 60 artists from around the Southeast, primarily from Alabama. Featured items include painting, drawing, wood carving, stained glass, sculpture, pottery, fabric arts and jewelry. Throughout the day visitors can enjoy children’s activities, dance troupes, live music and other performing arts. Enjoy Gamble Park’s shady grounds and gently flowing creek with a paved walking trail, playground and picnic areas. The event takes place Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the park adjacent to the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College.

African Heritage Festival
The Birmingham Museum of Art welcomes visitors to its annual African Heritage Festival Saturday, May 10, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The celebration of African and African diasporic cultures brings together art, music, dance and community. Families are invited to explore the museum’s African art galleries and take part in creative activities inspired by the collection. Guests can make their own drums, enjoy vibrant face painting by artists including Yogi Dada and meet members of community organizations, such as the Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization, to learn about their cultural work. Program highlights include performances by Drum the Program and Carib Sounds Steel Band. Festival admission is free. For more information, visit artsbma.org.
