Pizitz courtyard

Looking for a way to spend a Saturday afternoon downtown? The Pizitz Food Hall is bringing live music back to its courtyard this spring with a new outdoor concert series.

Set against the backdrop of one of the city’s most dynamic gathering spaces, the series will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on select Saturdays, offering a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere where guests can settle in with good food, drinks, and live local music.

The lineup highlights a range of Alabama-based talent, each bringing a distinct sound to the courtyard stage.

Noble-Freeland Band — April 11

With more than three decades of experience performing across the Southeast, the Noble-Freeland Band opens the series with a set rooted in acoustic rock. Known for their easy adaptability, the group moves seamlessly between mellow, harmony-driven songs and more energetic, crowd-pleasing moments. Their repertoire includes artists like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, and Paul Simon. Around Birmingham, they’re frequent fixtures at local favorites like Saw’s Juke Joint and Otey’s Tavern.

Sam Pointer — April 18

The following weekend, Sam Pointer brings a genre-blurring approach shaped by years of performance and collaboration. A multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Pointer’s sound pulls from rock, bluegrass, blues, ragtime, reggae, and folk traditions, creating a style that feels both rooted and expansive. His career has included time with bands like New Potato Caboose and the Black Jacket Symphony, along with a win at the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest. His 2021 solo album, What Good Is Money, reflects that same versatility—story-driven songs layered with groove and energy.

Zach Austin — April 25

On April 25, Zach Austin takes the stage with a sound that leans into country, folk, and rock influences. Also a member of the Birmingham-based group StepDads, Austin’s music blurs the lines between bluegrass, heirloom country, and blues, creating something both familiar and distinctly his own. He has shared stages with acts like the Vandoliers and continues to build a presence within the local and regional scene.

Rising Iris — May 2

The series continues into May with Rising Iris, who have recently played at some of Birmingham’s most beloved spots such as Pepper Place Market and Pink Lantern. They round out a lineup that speaks to the breadth of Birmingham’s musical talent and bringing the spring series to a close.

More than just a set of performances, the concert series is designed to bring people together in a relaxed, approachable setting. With a range of food vendors and drinks available throughout the hall, it’s an easy way to spend a Saturday afternoon downtown while supporting local artists.

Come out this spring for local music, good food, and great company in the heart of downtown Birmingham.
