Alabama is home to an incredible range of state parks that have something to offer adventurers year-round. Our Alabama State Parks Passport series highlights all of the stunning outdoor spaces throughout the state that make for the perfect seasonal getaway. The thirteenth in our series is Meaher State Park.
According to Alabama State Parks, “This 1,327-acre park is situated in the wetlands of north Mobile Bay and is a day-use, picnicking, and scenic park with modern camping hook-ups for overnight visitors. Meaher’s boat ramp and fishing pier will appeal to every fisherman and a self-guided walk on our boardwalk will give you an up-close view of the beautiful Mobile-Tensaw Delta.”
Nature
The most striking feature of Meaher State Park is the Mobile-Tensaw Delta to which the park has direct access. The second-largest delta in the US that spans more than twenty thousand acres, it is a captivating sight to see.
The easy access to the impressive body of water makes Meaher State Park an ideal destination for fishermen. Subject to the tides, the Delta is home to an array of different natural features from creeks and rivers to bayous and wetlands. The Delta’s unique estuary ecosystem allows a vast variety of both saltwater and freshwater species to thrive.

Activities
One of the park’s most beloved features is a favorite of fishermen throughout the area. The park’s pier is an impressive three hundred feet in total, two hundred of which are perfectly positioned for fishing. A hot spot for Alabama anglers, visitors looking to fish off of the pier must currently hold an Alabama freshwater fishing license. Visitors also have access to the boat ramp at the park’s east end which connects to the Blakeley River and is open from 7 a.m. to sunset.
Outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy nature walks can appreciate the area’s beautiful plants and small animals throughout the park as they stroll along the second boardwalk.

Accommodations
Meaher State Park has a few great options for overnight accommodations. The park boasts more than sixty RV campsites which include electrical connections and both water and sewer hook-ups. The park’s ten improved tent campsites also offer electrical and water connections. For those looking for something unique, try a quaint stay in one of the park’s four cabins by Ducker Bay.

Area Attractions
Lastly, for those looking to extend their stay in the area, Meaher State Park is conveniently located near the city of Mobile. Visitors can enjoy all that the city has to offer within a short drive.
To enjoy more of Alabama’s outdoors, Alabama State Parks suggests, “the nearby Mobile-Tensaw, W.L. Holland and Upper Delta Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) offer hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities for those visiting the Delta.”
Another great option for families is the nearby Five Rivers Delta Resource Center which offers kayak rentals, live local wildlife, a natural history museum, and a theater.
