Alabama is home to an incredible range of state parks that have something to offer adventurers year-round. Our Alabama State Parks Passport series highlights all of the stunning outdoor spaces throughout the state that make for the perfect seasonal getaway. The tenth in our series is Lakepoint State Park.
According to Alabama State Parks, “Picturesque Lakepoint State Park is located on the banks of the 45,000-acre Lake Eufaula, also known as ‘The Bass Capital of the World.’ Lakepoint offers a variety of amenities such as a full service restaurant and lounge, marina, hiking trails, modern campground, swimming complex, tennis courts and playgrounds.”
ACTIVITIES
Lakepoint State Park offers visitors a number of activities to enjoy including the following: camping, fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, bird watching, and more.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Considered the showpiece of the park by Alabama State Parks, Lakepoint Resort Lodge and Convention Center is one of Lakepoint’s most impressive features.
The lodge and convention center has 101 hotel rooms, each stylishly furnished and with refrigerator, coffee pot, ironing set up, hair dryer, and, most notably, a 32-inch flat screen included. Lakepoint Resort Lodge and Convention Center is also home to cabins and lakeside cottages—39 in total—and provides handicap-accessible and pet-friendly options.
Lakepoint State Park has nearly 200 campsites. While tent camping is welcome at Lakepoint, Deer Court and Barbour and Clark Loop campsites conveniently offer water and electricity.
NATURE
One of Lakepoint’s most interesting wildlife features is its American alligator sightings. Lakepoint is also known for its bird-watching. As a stop on Alabama’s Wiregrass Birding Trail, raptors such as osprey and songbirds of many kinds can be spotted at the park.
AREA ATTRACTIONS
For those looking to venture beyond the park, the following can be found nearby: Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, local shopping and dining, historic sites in downtown Eufaula, and the city of Columbus, Georgia.
