What truly defines the Cameron home is a daughter’s wish to honor her mother’s legacy through her art. From the very beginning, the house was envisioned as a place to live alongside her mother’s work that she had left behind, a collection of deeply personal pieces that now shape the essence of the space. Due to this, every design decision was made to elevate her art, giving it room to breathe, to speak, and to be remembered. This was not just about creating a beautiful home. It was about curating a gallery of memory, layered with comfort, purpose, and love.

Set on the Shoal Creek, the home began as a 1930s fish camp, built initially so a family member with polio could access the river. The house had a rare position, cantilevering just above the water. To preserve the grandfathered placement, we needed to leave a portion of the home intact. The original stone fireplace was left untouched and was the perfect heart of the home to start the renovation. From there, we stripped the house to its bones, rebuilding it as a warm and organic retreat that reflects both the natural landscape and the emotional depth of the family’s story.

The materials were chosen as an extension of art and nature. Locally sourced blue-gray Tennessee stone flows from the interior to the screened porch. Pickled wood walls and cabinetry with an opaque stain highlight the natural grain, softening the palette and complementing the tones in the artwork. Handmade tiles, mixed metals, and custom details add subtle texture and dimension throughout, continuing to echo the natural world.

As veterinarians with multiple dogs, our clients needed a home that was not only beautiful but also practical and durable. This is a common request among our clients, and one that we specialize in. We designed the spaces to strike a perfect balance between elegance and ease, with finishes that can handle wet swimsuits, dirty feet, and dogs coming in from the creek. Every element was carefully considered, but nothing was overthought. The result is a home that feels effortless, grounded, and entirely personal.

This home is a true reflection of its owners and the legacy they hold dear. It is a home built around memory, made with intention, and designed to feel as timeless as the artwork it was created to house.

Grounded. Soulful. Timeless.
