For years, Alabama food lovers have tracked down Pasteles La MoreliAna at festivals, markets, and events across the state. Soon, they’ll have a new place to find the beloved bakery’s flan, churros, tres leches cakes, and custom desserts.
La MoreliAna Bakery is preparing to open at The Pizitz Food Hall, bringing its authentic Mexican pastries and sweets to a permanent home in downtown Birmingham.

The bakery’s story began with founder Ana Araujo, who started baking traditional Mexican pastries after immigrating to the United States and selling them from her vehicle in the early 2000s. Over time, what began as a way to share familiar flavors from home grew into a family business, with daughters Joana and Marlen helping expand the operation.
After years of home baking and building a loyal following, the family launched the Pasteles La MoreliAna dessert truck in 2022. The business quickly gained attention for its traditional Mexican desserts, specialty cakes, and colorful social media presence.
Now, the family is taking its next step with a brick-and-mortar location inside The Pizitz.
Guests can expect a variety of authentic Mexican pastries and desserts, along with the opportunity to order fully customized cakes for birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations.
More than just a bakery, La MoreliAna represents a story of family entrepreneurship and cultural heritage. Through recipes passed down through generations, Araujo and her daughters have introduced countless Alabamians to the flavors and traditions of Mexican baking.
The move to The Pizitz gives the family a permanent space to continue sharing those traditions while reaching even more customers in the heart of Birmingham.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, but The Pizitz says updates will be shared on its social media channels.
