A Birmingham institution with more than three decades of history is once again in the national spotlight. Bottega has been named a finalist for the 2026 James Beard Awards, earning recognition in the Outstanding Hospitality category—one of the industry’s most meaningful honors.
Presented by the James Beard Foundation, the award honors restaurants that create a genuine sense of welcome—for both guests and staff—while maintaining excellence across food, atmosphere, and operations. The category speaks not just to what’s on the plate, but to how a place makes people feel.

Since opening in 1988, Bottega has played a defining role in Birmingham’s culinary identity under the leadership of chef and owner Frank Stitt, a four-time James Beard nominee. His approach—blending Southern ingredients with Italian influence—helped set the tone for a city that has grown into one of the South’s most compelling food destinations.
The recognition comes amid a milestone year for the Stitt Restaurant Group. Alongside Bottega, Stitt’s Chez Fonfon was recently included in Michelin’s inaugural Alabama selections, signaling national attention on the group’s broader impact. In addition, Pardis Stitt received Michelin’s Outstanding Service Award—one of the guide’s highest individual honors—recognizing her longstanding commitment to hospitality and the dining experience.
Bottega was first named a semifinalist earlier this year, alongside several Alabama chefs and beverage professionals across multiple categories. While others represented the state at that stage, Bottega now stands as the sole Alabama finalist for 2026, continuing a legacy built on consistency and care.
Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards are widely considered one of the most prestigious honors in the culinary world, celebrating excellence across a range of dining experiences. This year’s ceremonies will take place in Chicago from June 13–15, where winners will be announced.
