Milky Moo's

Some things get better with time—and Milky Moo’s Deli & Creamery is proving that to be true.

The beloved downtown Enterprise creamery has been named Best Ice Cream Parlor in Alabama by Guide to Alabama for the second consecutive year—a back-to-back honor that speaks as much to the community surrounding it as the handcrafted ice cream coming out of it.

For co-owner Elizabeth Shanks, the recognition landed with the same warmth and disbelief as the first time. “We were completely surprised when we won the first time,” she said. “To receive this recognition a second year in a row is incredibly humbling. We are so thankful for every customer who has supported us, voted for us, and made Milky Moo’s part of their family’s traditions.”

Founded in 2005 in the heart of historic downtown Enterprise, Milky Moo’s has grown into a destination that draws ice cream lovers from across Alabama and well beyond. The shop makes its super-premium ice cream fresh in-store, has developed more than 100 flavors over the years, and shows no signs of slowing down. Rotating creative flavors sit alongside beloved classics, with new recipes constantly in development—inspired by customer favorites, seasonal ingredients, and the hometown traditions that give Enterprise its character.

Elizabeth and her husband Adam purchased Milky Moo’s in 2023, bringing with them the same community-first philosophy that had already shaped their other downtown Enterprise venture, Alabama Pecan Company. When they took over, they were intentional about honoring what had made the shop special for nearly two decades while putting their own stamp on it. A full renovation refreshed the space. New recipes were developed. But the foundation—the base recipe, the commitment to quality, the sense of place—stayed intact.

That sense of place shows up in the ice cream itself. The shop’s signature Boll Weevil flavor tells the story of the region’s agricultural history in a single scoop: a peanut butter base with crushed Oreos for soil, marshmallows for cotton, and peanuts woven throughout.

The Best of Alabama awards are determined by customer nominations and public votes, which means this honor belongs, in a very real sense, to the people of Enterprise and everyone who has made Milky Moo’s part of their routine. Shanks acknowledged that directly. “This award belongs to our customers and our team just as much as it belongs to us. Small businesses thrive because of community support, and we are blessed to be part of such an amazing community here in Enterprise.”
