Curious about a restaurant you’ve never tried in the Huntsville or Birmingham areas? Or maybe you’re looking for an excuse to return to an old favorite.

Restaurant Week is your jam.

Created to promote locally-owned establishments, Restaurant Week showcases all types of cuisine, from tacos and tapas to premium steaks and seafood. It’s in its 10th year in the Rocket City and 12th in the Magic City.

Participating restaurants, bars, and other food-service businesses will offer multi-course fixed-price specials. Prices generally range from $5–$50.

Both “weeks” actually last longer. Huntsville’s is set for August 13-22. Birmingham, which extended its event last year to aid struggling restaurants, is a week longer, from August 12-29.

In Huntsville, Rocket City Delivered will waive its $3.99 delivery fee for all participating restaurants for the entire month of August, even after restaurant week ends there. The code is HRW2021.

Make plans for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or drinks by checking out the online menus and prices for Huntsville or Birmingham. Some places have not announced their menus, so keep checking back.

Options in Huntsville and surrounding towns include:

  • $10 will buy a choice of appetizer such as fried pickles, a doughnut-encased Bubby Burger and a scoop of ice cream at Bubby’s Diner
  • Dinner at Kona Grill might match a Picasso maki sushi roll with a 10-ounce prime rib and coconut rum cake for $35. For $10 more, you can get a crisp-fried maki roll with lobster, an 8-ounce beef filet, and one of two desserts.
  • Flight Plan Wine and Tapas will pair small pours of wine with each course in its $40 special that starts with a charcuterie platter before moving on to salad and then a salmon filet.

Establishments announced in greater Birmingham include restaurants like 5 Point Oyster House and Grill, Basil Pizza and Bar, and La Tia Paisa Taco Shop. Breweries and bars include Cahaba Brewing Co., Bar Sebastian, and Dread River Distilling Co.

Options for Birmingham Restaurant Week extend beyond the city limits, including restaurants from Homewood, Trussville, Leeds, Mountain Brook, and Vestavia Hills.

Double your fun with special events that coincide with Restaurant Week in both cities.

In Huntsville, the 20th annual Whistlestop Weekend Festival is set for August 13 and 14. The inaugural Huntsville Craft Beer Trail Fest is August 14.

In Mountain Brook just outside Birmingham, the Vino Gallery and Bar will host Wine-O-logy, a wine-flight tasting set for Wednesday, August 18 from 4:40 p.m.–7:30 p.m. Vino also will have $40 dinner and $11 drink specials as part of Birmingham Restaurant Week.

To take full advantage of Restaurant Week, bring your appetite and a sense of adventure. It’s time to eat, drink, and be merry.
