How to make ‘The Best Lemon Drop You’ve Ever Had’

1.7 min read

Frothy, refreshing and the perfect combination of tart and sweet —  it’s not your average lemon drop cocktail but, as the name implies, “The Best Lemon Drop You’ve Ever Had.”

In an effort to pay homage to his grandmother’s lemon ice box pie, the libation is an original creation of mixologist Matt at SoHo Standard in Homewood.

The key ingredient? Alabama’s own “Elizabeth” vodka made by John Emerald Distilling Company in Opelika. The vodka is the first of its kind in the state, corn-based and triple filtered to provide a smooth and satisfying demeanor.

And its namesake is another tribute. In true John Emerald fashion, each spirit is crafted to honor the spirit of the great men and women of the John Emerald family. Clara Elizabeth was one special lady, strong with a loving heart – just like the award-winning product that bears her name.

John Emerald’s “Elizabeth” vodka has received a gold medal and was named Best in Class by the American Distilling Institute.

  • 1 egg white

  • 1/2 ounce honey

  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh squeezed lemon juice

  • 1 1/5 ounces of John Emerald ‘Elizabeth’ Vodka

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of Madagascar vanilla syrup

  • Pour honey over a lemon wedge and use to rim glass with brown sugar

  • Shake the cocktail, strain and then dry shake without ice to froth a little more

  • Pour over lemonade ice cubes

  • Garnish with caramelized lemon wedge
