In honor of America’s 250th birthday, this week’s SoulGrown Roundup is dedicated to celebrating the red, white, and blue. From fireworks over the water and lakeside concerts to street parties and riverfront festivities, we’ve rounded up some of the best ways to celebrate our country across Alabama. Whether you’re staying close to home or making a holiday road trip, these events offer plenty of opportunities to gather with family and friends and enjoy Independence Day in communities throughout the state.

Independence Day Street Party presented by The City of Orange Beach 

July 2nd

Kick off your Fourth of July celebrations a little early at the Independence Day Street Party in Orange Beach. Held at The Wharf on July 2, the family-friendly event is part of the city’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and features an evening packed with activities for all ages. Guests can enjoy bounce houses, an inflatable obstacle course, camel and pony rides, face painting, and appearances from Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam before the night concludes with what organizers are calling the biggest fireworks and drone show ever held at The Wharf. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., with fireworks launching at 9 p.m. followed by a drone show at 9:15 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

Fire on the Water-Pelham 

July 3rd

One of the Birmingham area’s favorite Fourth of July traditions returns to Oak Mountain State Park on July 3. Fire on the Water will once again light up the sky above Double Oak Lake with a fireworks display beginning at 9 p.m., but the celebration starts long before sunset. Visitors are encouraged to spend the day enjoying the park’s beaches, fishing piers, playgrounds, hiking trails, and watercraft rentals before settling in for the show. As part of Pelham’s America 250 celebrations, this year’s event will also feature commemorative giveaways and family-friendly activities throughout the evening. Food vendors will be on site beginning at 4 p.m., and guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers for a festive night under the stars.

Jam on Sloss Lake-Russellville 

July 4th

Spend the Fourth of July at Sloss Lake in Russellville, where this annual celebration combines small-town charm with a full day of family-friendly entertainment. Jam on Sloss Lake features a classic car show, inflatables for kids, live music throughout the evening, and a fireworks finale over the lake. The free event begins at noon and continues into the night, giving visitors plenty of time to enjoy food vendors, the splash pad, and performances from local and regional acts before the fireworks light up the sky at 9:45 p.m. Whether you’re a longtime attendee or making your first trip to Russellville, it’s a festive way to celebrate Independence Day in North Alabama.

Sweet Home 250-Montevallo

July 3–4

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday at Sweet Home 250, a two-day festival at American Village in Montevallo and the official State of Alabama celebration of the nation’s semiquincentennial. The event features performances by Alabama artists including Taylor Hicks, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Chuck Leavell, alongside chef demonstrations, historical reenactments, interactive storytelling, art exhibitions, family activities, and local food. From hands-on history and live music to kids’ attractions and fireworks weekend festivities, Sweet Home 250 offers something for visitors of all ages.

4th of July Celebration: America’s 250th Anniversary-Mobile

July 4th

Celebrate Independence Day aboard one of Alabama’s most historic landmarks during Mobile’s Fourth of July Celebration: America’s 250th Anniversary. Held at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park on July 4, the free event honors the nation’s milestone birthday with an evening of live music, food trucks, local vendors, games, and family-friendly activities. Entertainment includes performances by The Six Piece Suits and The Kazzettes before the night concludes with a fireworks show over the battleship at 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and settle in for a patriotic celebration in the Port City.

Celebration on the River-Tuscaloosa 

July 4th

Head to Tuscaloosa’s riverfront on July 4 for Celebration on the River, the city’s annual Independence Day tradition. Held at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, this free, family-friendly event commemorates America’s 250th anniversary with an evening of live entertainment, activities for all ages, and one of West Alabama’s most anticipated fireworks displays. Guests can enjoy a Kids Zone featuring games and inflatables, live music throughout the evening, and a performance by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra before fireworks light up the sky over the Black Warrior River at 9 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, gather your family and friends, and celebrate the Fourth of July in the heart of Tuscaloosa.

Thunder on the Mountain-Birmingham 

July 4th

No Fourth of July roundup would be complete without Birmingham’s signature fireworks spectacular. Thunder on the Mountain returns to Red Mountain on July 4, lighting up the Birmingham skyline in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Hosted by Vulcan Park & Museum, the annual tradition is the largest Fourth of July fireworks show in Alabama, featuring more than 2,500 fireworks effects synchronized to a patriotic soundtrack. The show begins at approximately 9 p.m. and can be viewed from vantage points across Birmingham and Homewood, with music broadcast on several local radio stations and a live television broadcast available for those watching from home. 

Whether you prefer watching fireworks from the shore, spending the day on the lake, or gathering with friends and family in the heart of your community, Alabama offers countless ways to celebrate Independence Day.
