Meet the creator of SoulGrown, Ellis Terry! While still studying at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ellis began the SoulGrown Instagram pages to showcase Alabama the Beautiful after traveling the world and growing a great appreciation for his home state. Now, Ellis leaves enhancement of the brand to the SoulGrown team and serves more on the consulting and sales side of the company. Learn more about the founder of SoulGrown below.

  1. Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and went to The Montgomery Academy. I went to college at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where I met my future wife, Emily. We got married in 2018 and I have a 1-year-old little boy, Ellis Jr. We currently live in Birmingham, where I work in Real Estate for Ingram & Associates. We are a new home and condo pre-development and consulting firm.

  1. Where do you call home base?

Birmingham is where my family and I live, and we absolutely love it. I like to say, you can make Birmingham as big or small as you want. There are great pocket neighborhoods, but the whole Birmingham metro has a LOT to offer. There are big city amenities in world-renowned chefs, artists, music, sports, and entertainment.

  1. What is a favorite memory from your career so far?

I have been blessed to work on some great real estate developments across the state. I think each of them have something special about them. It has also allowed me to travel around our great state.

Partnering with the SoulGrown team has been a highlight in my career as well. It is so much fun to see everyone’s work coming together for the greater good of Alabama!

  1. What are some things you like to do for fun?

I love the outdoors! I enjoy hunting, fishing, golf, horseback riding, hiking and kayaking. My wife and I enjoy entertaining and live music as well.

  1. What motivates and/or inspires you?

My family is number one, but I also have many passions I want to share with everyone. There is a fun overlap in my real estate career and personal interest. I enjoy sharing that with folks and working on quality projects.

  1. When do you feel most creative?

I believe I am most creative when I am in the Alabama countryside. A beautiful place where I can block out the busyness of life and think.

  1. What is your favorite thing to do on a Sunday Funday?

Riding horses with my wife, Emily or Quail hunting

  1. What is your favorite thing (or things) about Alabama?

Alabama has so much to offer. The diverse landscape and resources offer a plethora of things to do. I am a people person and Alabama has some of the best people in the world. The culinary scene is special, as well.

  1. Who have been your strongest influences?

My parents have been a huge influence on me in my life. They worked very hard to give me ample opportunity and exposed me to a lot of different experiences.

  1. What is your birth order?

I am the oldest of two! I have a younger brother, Coleman. He is the man.
