All Steak Restaurant

Tucked in the heart of downtown Cullman, Alabama, All Steak Restaurant has earned a loyal following for its relaxed charm and consistently excellent food. Anthony Barnes, who grew up in Adamsville and has lived in Cullman since 2010, serves as the restaurant’s executive chef. With experience at Little Savannah Restaurant & Bar, Satterfield’s Restaurant in Birmingham, and Dyron’s Lowcountry, Barnes brings a fine-dining approach to the menu while keeping it approachable. He and owner Powell have updated the offerings while honoring the restaurant’s traditions. “We’ve come in and we’ve changed the menu in a way that we feel will keep this place relevant,” Barnes says. “But we’re still trying to keep the tradition.”

Legend has it that when Millard Buchman founded his restaurant in Tennessee in 1934, he intended to call it “All Steak Hamburgers.” But custom signage was priced by the letter, and “hamburgers” had far too many for his budget. In 1938, he moved the business to Cullman, where, despite changes in location and ownership, All Steak has remained a cornerstone of the community ever since. Today, the restaurant works closely with local producers—Evans Meats, Greg Abrams, Harvest Farms, Kress Farms, Le Fish, McEwen & Sons, and Terra Preta Farms—ensuring that every dish reflects both care and community, reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to supporting local farmers and businesses while serving the Cullman community with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

The menu features mouth-watering steaks cooked to perfection, whether diners prefer a ribeye or a filet mignon. Chef Anthony also offers rotating weekend specials, plated beautifully, like the Florida grouper with sweet potato purée or mussels and fries with Spanish chorizo.

A must-try? Start with the crispy crab cakes, topped with sweet corn pico de gallo and creamy remoulade sauce, which are always on the menu. While the orange rolls have earned near-legendary status for their perfectly balanced sweetness, the rest of the menu deserves just as much attention for its fine yet approachable offerings.

Step inside All Steak, and the welcoming atmosphere is immediately clear. Exposed brick walls and cozy booth seating give the space a relaxed, classic feel, while the 130-seat dining room, a private event space for 125, and a lounge for about 50 provide options for any occasion. Friendly, attentive staff help make every visit comfortable and inviting.
