If a greased pig chase and a frog jumping contest sounds like you’re idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place. Each September, the small town of Eva in North Alabama comes together for a week of old-fashioned fun and games at Eva Frontier Days. The family-friendly festival, September 17-25 this year, includes the aforementioned greased pig chase and frog jumping contest, as well as a parade, hayrides, showings of antique tractors, and a rodeo.
The rodeo kicks things off (literally) at Frost Farms on September 17 & 18. For $10, you’ll see bulls, barrels, and bullfights as brave cowboys strut their stuff.
The Eva Frontier Days Beauty Pageant will be held September 18 at Charlie’s Vineyard at Frost Farm. Winners will be chosen in the following categories: Little Tiny Miss (Birth-11months); Tiny Miss (1-2 years); Little Miss (3-4 years); Petite Miss (5-6 years); Junior Miss (7-9 years); Preteen Miss (10-12 years); Teen Miss (13-15 years); and Miss (16-18 years).
Join the hayride at 6:30 p.m. on September 21 with the route beginning at the Eva Saddle Club Arena. A ride ticket is only $1 per person and includes a free hotdog and drink at the end of the ride. Community singing and live entertainment will happen throughout the week.
The last, but certainly not the least, day begins at 9 a.m. on September 25 with an arts and craft show, food vendors and an antique tractor and car show. Additional activities include a parade at 11 a.m., live entertainment at 12:30 and 2 p.m. featuring David Davis and the Warrior River Boys and a pig-calling contest at 3 p.m. The day wraps up at the ball fields with the frog-jumping contest at 4 p.m. followed by the greased pig chase at 5 p.m.
It’s a festival you don’t want to miss!
