Enterprise St. Patrick's Day

The leprechauns have spoken, and the shamrocks have been counted: St. Patrick’s Day in Enterprise, Alabama, is unlike any other in the state. Instead of a massive parade, this quirky tradition features just one participant—the Grand Marshal—marching down East College Street waving an oversized Irish flag.

This year’s parade is led by Luke Stewart, a proud Irish-American and veteran of the United States Army. Stewart’s great-grandfather, John Dever, immigrated from Ireland and worked as a tailor in New Jersey during the Great Depression. Stewart’s Scotch-Irish heritage and family history of American citizenship make him a perfect representative of the parade’s Irish spirit.

Last year, the parade was led by Ryan Dugger, WTVY Meteorologist and “Irish jig extraordinaire,” who marched down East College Street from the Coffee County Courthouse. Dugger’s lively performance helped set the tone for the city’s quirky tradition and reminded everyone that Enterprise knows how to have fun.

Now a civilian at Fort Rucker, Stewart enjoys spending time with his wife, their six-year-old son, and two energetic dogs. He’s passionate about Irish folk music, Scotch-Irish festivals, and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with friends and family.

The World’s Smallest Parade

The World’s Smallest St. Patrick’s Day Parade began in 1993 and has become a local favorite ever since. Crowds gather along East College Street to watch the lone Grand Marshal dance, wave the oversized Irish flag, and bring cheer to spectators.

It may be tiny, but it’s full of personality—and plenty of laughs. Spectators are encouraged to wear green, bring their festive flair, and enjoy the lighthearted tradition.

If a one-person parade isn’t enough fun, participants can join the Half Pint 0.5K, affectionately known as the “Race for the Rest of Us.”

The course is just 546 yards—less than a third of a mile—making it perfect for anyone who enjoys a fun stroll over a strenuous workout. Along the route, participants can stop at a donut station halfway through to refuel before finishing.

Registration includes event swag, a commemorative T-shirt, and entry into the post-race celebration. Same-day registration is also available, though official swag is limited. After the race, participants can enjoy drinks, music, and photos with the championship belt—making this one of the most unique St. Patrick’s Day “races” in Alabama.

Whether you come to cheer on the lone marcher, stroll the Half Pint 0.5K, or simply soak in the quirky charm of Enterprise, this small-town celebration offers a big dose of St. Patrick’s Day fun.

Sometimes the smallest events make the biggest impressions—and in Enterprise, that’s exactly the case.
