Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q

One of the most famous barbecue joints in the South, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q is a cornerstone of the Morgan County BBQ scene. Widely recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious barbeque restaurants in the world, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q was founded in Decatur in 1925. Bob Gibson was an L&N railroad worker who honed his cooking skill on the weekends, in a hand-dug barbecue pit. Known for inventing Alabama’s iconic white sauce, this legendary spot offers tender pulled pork, smoked chicken, and award-winning ribs.

B.B. Perrins

A beloved community gathering spot, B.B. Perrins Sports Grille prides itself on “all things smoked.” The restaurant was Decatur’s first local sports bar and grille, established in July of 1988 by Benny and Braxton Perrin. From smoked meats and barbeque to their award-winning rib gumbo and signature peanut butter fudge pie, there’s something for everyone’s taste buds. Friends and family are invited to join in on the fun at regular karaoke nights, game day events, and rotating weekly drink specials.

Smokey C’s BBQ and Wings

A hidden gem in Decatur, Smokey C’s is beloved for its flavorful meats and homestyle sides. Brothers Casey and Corey Culver became famous for their barbeque at family cookouts, who encouraged the brothers to go into business and share their talents with the community. Known for their smoked wings and juicy brisket, this spot offers a cozy atmosphere and generous portions. Be sure to try their specialty sauces for a unique twist on classic barbecue flavors.

Whitt’s BBQ

Founded in Athens in 1966, Floyd and Laura Whitt began a dream and a tradition of excellence. They originally hoped to provide a way to send their four children to college, and now, nearly six decades later, Whitt’s is still providing hickory smoked BBQ, cooked the old-fashioned way with hickory coals. The first Decatur location opened in 1976 and is still in operation, with a fourth-generation crew continuing the delicious tradition. Try their signature pulled pork on a sandwich or their fall-off-the-bone ribs with a side of slaw.

It’s difficult to understand just how good MoCo BBQ is until you taste it for yourself—as the community says, “We take meat seriously around here.” The locals will be happy to share their favorite meals at their favorite BBQ places around town. Hit the MoCo BBQ Trail when you’re ready to dig into something delicious!
