The sixth in our series is Lake Guntersville State Park.
OVERVIEW
According to Alabama State Parks, “Lake Guntersville State Park rests along the banks of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama. Whether you are looking for a resort-style retreat or an outdoor adventure in the 6,000 acres of natural woodlands, Lake Guntersville State Park will satisfy all your needs. Among the many recreational offerings are an 18-hole championship golf course, the Screaming Eagle Zipline, a beach complex, an outdoor nature center, excellent fishing in Alabama’s largest lake, 36 miles of hiking and biking trails, weekly guided hikes, and a day-use area.”
NATURE
One attraction that is unique to Lake Guntersville State Park is its growing nesting bald eagle population. Guntersville has become established as an important place for eagle awareness in Alabama. This exciting development can be attributed to conservation efforts within the area. Annually on select weekends, visitors can learn about the current conservation efforts of the once-endangered bald eagle population by attending events held by Lake Guntersville State Parks’ Eagle Awareness Program.

Lake Guntersville State Park offers a number of accommodation options for single or multi-night stays. Their campground is updated and offers a number of areas to set up camp for one or multiple nights. There are also cabins available located on the bank of the lake and private chalets found across the park’s ridge tops. The park also offers accommodations at the resort lodge which sits atop Taylor Mountain and boasts a remarkable view. There are also handicap-accessible options and accommodation options that are considered dog-friendly.
