Background

A New Orleans native, Dr. Raggio completed medical school at LSU and his surgical residency at Tulane. Interested in further refining his Rhinoplasty and Facial Rejuvenation skills, he pursued an advanced fellowship training in Facial Plastic Surgery at The University of Toronto. He credits this experience with broadening his expertise.

“I had a multicultural surgical experience up in Toronto—very diverse cases. So that really prepared me to take care of patients from every ethnicity, being comfortable operating on faces and noses of any shape and size. More than that, there were advanced techniques and technologies that I really wanted to bring back to the South.”

With family in New Orleans and Dallas, Dr. Raggio and his wife Kristin did not originally intend to bring their practice to Birmingham, but, after visiting the Homewood and Mountain Brook area, they quickly fell in love with the charming allure that is the Birmingham community. Finding that it was a great area to put down roots for their business and raise a family, they decided to make the move. Through Raggio MD, they are able to offer their new community something both exciting and unprecedented when it comes to facial aesthetics.

 

Specialization

What’s unique about Dr. Raggio is that his practice focuses exclusively on plastic surgery of the face, neck, nose, and eyes. In honing in on one area of the body, he has been able to refine and perfect his skillset. An expert in the field, Dr. Raggio’s specialization in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation attracts patients from around the region.

“Because I specialize in only the face, I am able to offer these more advanced techniques which a lot of patients want. For example, one technique for facelift is something called the deep plane technique. We’re able to reposition deeper tissues, contour deeper structures, and it essentially equates to a more natural, longer-lasting result. It’s technically more demanding, but the results are amazing.”

Although new to the Birmingham area, Dr. Raggio is not new to the field of Plastic Surgery. He has performed hundreds of rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation cases over the last several years, working at a hospital as the only Facial Plastic Surgeon within a 90-mile radius. He credits this experience, along with his uniquely diverse training in New Orleans and Toronto, with his ability to take on nearly any case.

His experience paired with his advanced techniques means less recovery, less downtime, and more natural, long-lasting results for his patients. He also notes that he is always learning. One of the most important aspects of his practice is an emphasis on continuing to refine his craft.

“I think the biggest thing that people need to know is that I’m not doing the same Rhinoplasty I was doing two years ago, let alone two months ago. I think patients appreciate that passion for perfection.”
